Content and accessibility

The baseline is WCAG 2.2 AA and plain Indian English. Legal terms are defined on first use. A language version is independently reviewed; machine translation alone cannot become an approved notice.

Language workflow

English is the source version. A customer enables any Eighth Schedule language through:

requested → translated → linguistic review → legal equivalence review → accessibility review → approved → published

Each translation binds to the same purpose/data structure and has its own copy hash. A source change marks translations stale and blocks new collection after the configured grace/review decision. Users can switch language without losing form state.

Writing rules

name the organisation and action;
use “personal data” after defining it;
use short sentences and concrete verbs;
separate required processing from optional choice;
say what happens after withdrawal;
give a specific support route and reference;
cite a retention reason in user language, with detailed source available;
do not say “legal obligation” without identifying the approved internal reason.

Avoid “by continuing you agree,” “for better experience,” “may share with trusted partners” and other non-specific copy.

Component behavior

Labels persist; placeholders are examples only. Errors appear at field and summary, move focus appropriately and preserve valid input. Status is never conveyed by colour alone. Dialogs trap and restore focus. Tables have headers and responsive alternatives. Touch targets are at least 44×44 CSS pixels where interactive.

Motion is restrained and respects prefers-reduced-motion; statutory clocks never rely on an animation. Time is shown with time zone and absolute date, not only “in two days.”

Low bandwidth

server-render useful HTML;
defer diagrams and non-essential scripts;
compress assets and avoid decorative media;
autosave only minimal encrypted drafts;
provide print and text alternatives;
retry idempotently after disconnect;
show last-synchronised time;
allow QR/branch/phone continuation with a reference.

Dark-pattern review

Compare grant and withdrawal steps, visual weight, defaults, copy and consequences. Check bundled consent, pre-ticked choices, false urgency, confirmshaming, forced action, interface interference, nagging, bait-and-switch, subscription traps and disguised ads. Store journey screenshots and review version.

Required microcopy

Consent: “Choose whether we may use the listed data for personalised offers. Saying no will not affect account servicing.”

Withdrawal: “Your choice is withdrawn. We have stopped new use and sent instructions to 3 systems. One service provider is still confirming; track reference WD-SYN-88.”

Verification: “We need one more check before sending account-linked information. We will keep the result, not a copy of your document, unless the stated policy requires it.”

Failure: “We could not send this request to one system. Your request remains open and no action is needed from you. We will update this page.”

Test matrix

Keyboard-only, NVDA/JAWS on supported Windows browsers, VoiceOver on Safari/iOS, TalkBack on Android, 200%/400% zoom, 320/375/414/768 px widths, high contrast, reduced motion, slow/unstable network, long Hindi/other-language strings, RTL readiness where a future language requires it, and assisted agent flow.
